Warrantability

Alberta New Home Warranty Standards:  

• 1-Year: Covers defects in materials or workmanship, including electrical or plumbing connections impacting the function of the refrigerator.  

• 2-Year: Covers distribution system issues like water line or drainage malfunctions tied to installation.  

Builder's Warranty:  

• Builders typically align refrigerator warranty coverage with Alberta standards, protecting against faulty installation, improper water line setups, or poor drainage for 1–2 years.  

Manufacturer's Warranty:  

• Most manufacturers offer 1–2 years of general coverage for parts and labor. Coils, compressors, and sealed cooling systems often have extended warranties of 5–10 years for parts (labor typically excluded after the initial warranty period). Ice makers and other add-ons may have separate, shorter warranty periods (e.g., 1 year). 

Maintenance

• Clean refrigerator coils (condenser coils) every 6–12 months to improve cooling efficiency and reduce wear on the compressor.  

• Inspect and clean the door gasket regularly to ensure a proper seal, preventing air leakage.  

• Replace the water filter (if applicable) every 6 months to maintain clean water and ice.  

• Defrost the freezer (for manual defrost models) whenever frost buildup exceeds 1/4 inch to improve efficiency.  

• Keep the appliance level to ensure the doors close tightly and the internal functions operate correctly.

• A void overloading shelves to maintain proper airflow and temperature distribution.

1. Refrigerator not cooling 

Causes:

• Incorrect thermostat settings or a malfunctioning thermostat.

2. Water leaking from the refrigerator

Causes:

• Clogged or frozen defrost drain causing water to pool and spill out. 

• Cracked or improperly connected water supply line used for ice maker or water dispenser. 

• Excess moisture in the fridge due to warm air entering through a damaged door gasket or seal. 

• Excess condensation collecting inside because of high humidity or improper temperature settings.

Warrantability: 

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Covered under the 1-Year workmanship warranty for leaks caused by improper water line installation.  

• Builder Warranty: May apply for issues caused by faulty water or drainage connections during installation within 1–year.  

• Manufacturer Warranty: Defective water supply lines or internal components causing leaks are often covered within the initial warranty period.

Repair Solution:

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ to resolve leaks caused by installation.
• If outside warranty:  Unclog the defrost drain by flushing it with warm water and clearing blockages with a pipe cleaner. Replace damaged or improperly attached water lines. Replace door gaskets to ensure a tight seal and prevent warm air entry. 

Causes:

• The water filter needs to be changed. (Homeowner Maintenance. Replacement filters not included) 

• Water valve not properly connected or clogged, restricting water flow to the ice maker. 

• Ice maker control arm stuck in the "off" position or malfunctioning. 

• Faulty ice maker motor or thermostat preventing proper operation. 

• Freezer temperature set above 10°F, which is too warm to produce ice effectively. 

Warrantability:

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Covered under 1-Year workmanship warranty if improper water line setup caused ice maker failure. 

• Builder Warranty: Applicable if installation errors affect the water supply to the ice maker during the first 1 year. 

• Manufacturer Warranty: Ice maker components are typically covered for 1 year within the standard manufacturer warranty.

Repair Solution 

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ for installation-related fixes.
• If outside warranty: Check the water valve for clogs or loose connections and repair as necessary. Verify the control arm is in the "on" position and test the ice maker motor or thermostat for functionality. Set the freezer temperature between 0°F and 5°F to optimize ice creation. 

4. Refrigerator making loud noises

Causes: 

• Loose compressor or fan components causing vibrating or rattling noises. 

• Worn-out evaporator or condenser fan motor generating squeaking or grinding sounds. 

• Ice buildup on the evaporator fan blades causing an imbalance during rotation. 

• Refrigerator is not level, leading to vibrations and noise. 

Warrantability:

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Covered under the 1-Year workmanship warranty if noises result from compressor installation or vent connection issues.  

• Builder Warranty (1 Year): Noise from improperly installed refrigerators may be covered within the first 1–year.

• Manufacturer Warranty: Defective motors or mechanical parts causing noises are likely covered for 1–10 years (depending on the part).
   

Repair Solution:

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ to inspect and resolve noise-related issues. 
• If outside warranty: Reseat the refrigerator on a level surface to reduce vibration. Inspect evaporator/condenser fan motors for wear and replace if necessary. Remove ice buildup around the evaporator fan blades. 

5. Bad odors coming from the refrigerator

Causes: 

• Spoiled food or spilled liquids causing lingering odors. 

• Clogged drains with debris or mold growth. 

• Dirty or saturated water filters (in models with water dispensers). 

• Poor airflow and high humidity levels leading to mold or mildew inside the fridge.

Warrantability:

• Odors are typically considered a maintenance issue and are not covered under most warranties. 
   

Repair Solution:

• Clean the interior thoroughly with a solution of baking soda and water. 

• Unclog and sanitize the drain line to remove any mold or debris. 

• Replace the water filter if it is clogged or expired. 

• Place a box of baking soda inside the fridge to absorb odors.
