Warrantability

Coverage for siding is limited to defects in installation or workmanship that directly impact the product's proper functioning.  

Alberta New Home Warranty Standards:  

• 1-Year: Covers defects in workmanship and materials, such as improperly installed or defective siding. 

• 5-Year: Covers water penetration or related issues caused by faulty siding that affect the building envelope. 

Builder's Warranty:  

• 1-Year: Covers defects in workmanship and materials, such as improperly installed or defective siding. 

Manufacturer's Warranty:  

• The manufacturer's warranty covers material defects that result in improper functioning, such as warping or peeling, under normal conditions.  The timeline for warranty will vary by manufacturer. 

Maintenance

Routine maintenance ensures your siding remains functional and performs well:  

• Regular Inspections: Check for cracks, loose or warped panels, and water damage twice a year, especially near windows and doors.  

• For vinyl siding, use a mild cleaning solution and a garden hose. Avoid overly abrasive methods.  

• For fiber cement or wood, scrub gently and use a soft brush to clean dirt and prevent mildew.  

• Trim Trees: Keep vegetation away to avoid scratches, moisture buildup, and insect activity.  

1. Cracking or Warping 

Causes:

• Improper installation, such as nailing panels too tightly or unevenly. 

• Exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations causing expansion and contraction. 

• Physical damage from impacts (e.g., hail, heavy objects). 

• Poor material quality or aging materials. 

Warrantability:

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Covered under the 1-Year workmanship and materials warranty if caused by improper installation or product defects. 

• Builder's Warranty (1 Year): Covered for the first year in most cases if installation contributed to the damage.

• Manufacturer Warranty: Material defects like excessive warping or buckling are generally covered, especially for vinyl and fiber cement siding.

• Please Note: Cracking due to impact of any kind is considered cosmetic and is not covered under warranty.  

Repair Solution:

• If within warranty period: Reach out to serviceQ to properly assess the warped siding and bring in a licensed siding contractor to repair. 

• Outside Warranty: For minor cracks, apply color-matching siding repair caulk to seal the area. Contact a certified siding professional to replace the affected panels if required.  

2. Moisture Damage (Mold or Rot) 

Causes:

• High moisture levels combined with poor drainage or ventilation. 

• Water splashing onto the siding from poorly directed gutters or unsealed edges.

Warrantability: 

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Generally, not covered unless caused by improper installation, leading to water accumulation. 

• Builder's Warranty (1 Year): May apply within 1–year if installation contributed to moisture retention. 

• Manufacturer Warranty: Not applicable as mold is typically a maintenance issue. 

Repair Solution:

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ to evaluate the issue.  Remove water-damaged areas, seal gaps with exterior-grade caulk, and assess the drainage system to prevent recurring damage.  
• Outside Warranty: Clean moldy areas using a soft bristle brush and a mixture of water and mild detergent (or vinegar solution).Apply mold-resistant treatments or coatings to reduce regrowth. Resolve any moisture issues around gutters or landscaping that may contribute to recurring mold. 
   

3. Fading or Discoloration  

Warrantability 

• 1-Year Builder Warranty: Covered if fading occurs due to defects in the materials.  

• Normal wear and tear, including weather damage, is not covered.  

Repair Solution 

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ to evaluate the issue
• Outside Warranty: Repaint or clean the surface with approved products. Consult a trade professional. 

4. Loose or Missing Panels 

Causes:

• Poor nailing or fastening during installation. 

• High wind or impact damage pulling panels away from the structure. 

• Expansion or contraction causing nails to loosen over time.

Warrantability:

• Alberta New Home Warranty (1 Year): Covered under the 1-Year workmanship warranty if caused by improper fastening.

• Builder's Warranty (1 Year): Coverage may apply for detachment caused by installation issues in the builder warranty period.

• Manufacturer Warranty: Not typically covered unless defective fasteners or materials directly caused the issue.

Repair Solution:

• If within warranty period: Contact serviceQ to secure or replace detached panels. 
• Outside warranty: Refasten loose panels using galvanized or corrosion-resistant nails, ensuring proper spacing and secure fit. Replace missing trim or fasteners to prevent further detachment from weather exposure. Contact a licensed siding contractor to assist with siding repairs.
